Central Plains Chapter Meeting:

”Social Engineering – Human Side of Security”, Aaron Card

We use it when we try to get our kids to do their homework, cajole employees into doing a bit of extra work, or try to talk a traffic cop out of a ticket. However, hackers also use social engineering to get valuable information that allows them to penetrate IT systems. In this informative and non-technical discussion of a this real threat to our information systems Aaron Card will discuss:

·         What is Social Engineering (SE)

·         Present “Real-World” Examples of SE Attacks

·         How to Prevent SE compromises

·         Elicitation & Counter-Elicitation

"Cryptography and Encryption”, George Hinkle, CISSP

Insuring that Network infrastructures and Information Systems today are transferring and storing information securely requires the use of some form of encryption.  However, this is a topic that can be challenging to understand and design.  In this presentation, George Hinkle will provide a clear explanation of the various types of cryptography that are available and there common uses.

·         Symmetric Vs. Asymmetric Encryption

·         Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)

·         Hashing Applications

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)® is a not-for-profit international organization of information security professionals and practitioners.  It provides education forums, publications and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members. We hope the ISSA will provide a chance to interface with other IT professionals and further your awareness of security practices and technologies.

This meeting is open to the general public with no expectations of membership.
