Central Plains Chapter Meeting:
"Identity", Jim Gerken
Speaker Bio: Jim has been working in the Identity space since before it was named, and in IT since the Apple IIe.
Accounts have grown from a way to get basic access to a PC or printer, to "the new perimeter" and core of Cybersecurity.
He's built solutions to provide authentication, access assignment, visibility, and all of the other key and
secondary functions of Identity for a wide variety of industries, using a wide variety of vendors and products.
The resilience of the password continues to amaze him while he has spent decades trying to end the reliance on passwords
through SSO, MFA, passwordless, and now frictionless authentication.
Zero Trust is a current passion because it is heavily dependent upon the Identity and establishing access assignment systems
with minimal standing access. One of the important efforts for Identity is the creation of Standards, and Jim also likes
to work towards this through grassroots efforts and working directly with the people who do Identity.
The current position as Director of Identity at Novacoast has allowed him to influence and guide the new Identity People for
several generations and he hopes to see one of the people he has mentored become a well-known CIdO.
