"Data Doesn't Die: Strategies for Data Decommissioning", Sean Steele, CISSP, CISA

 

Sean Steele is a Sr. Security Consultant and co-founder of infoLock Technologies, an information security consulting & solutions provider headquartered outside Washington, DC. The firm focuses on innovative strategies, services, and solutions for managing lifecycle data security related to information assets. Mr. Steele has over 12 years of IT and information security experience, including as founding employee of GlobalCerts, an email encryption appliance company, and with MicroStrategy, a data mining and business intelligence software company. He has spoken at numerous industry events and meetings, is an occasional information security columnist for NetworkWorld and Information Systems Security Journal, and has appeared on television as a infosec expert. He is co-authoring a book on employee workplace monitoring. He lives in Washington, DC.


Sean will be presenting on Data Decommissioning Strategies

    Sean will be presenting best practices for establishing and verifying controls for data destruction, including magnetic degaussing, Triple Overwrite/DOD Standard 5220, physical shredding, and Secure Erase methods. Practical and operational considerations will be discussed, as well as several COTS applications and tools.
