Central Plains Chapter Meeting:

"External Threat Management", Chad Salisbury & Mike Wyatt, RiskIQ

Chad Salisbury graduated, with a PhD, from the school of hard knocks. He began his career as a NOC analyst for a Kansas City IT shop in 1997. After breaking a few things "on accident" he pursued a career focused on Security. Working for Fishnet Security from 2003-2013 he "grew up" from analysts to consultant to architect. Chad now works as a Customer Engagement Engineer for RiskIQ helping customers build out their External Threat Management Programs.

Mike Wyatt graduated with a Master's of Science in Information Security and Assurance from Western Governor's University. He has spent the majority of his life on the computer, beginning his official career at 16 building, and fixing computers and networks in Wichita. After several years he relocated to New York City; where he became the Assistant Director of IT for a large non-profit. After a few more years he began his full-time cyber security career by moving back to Wichita and helping protect one of the largest privately owned companies. In Wichita, he was exposed to many different security responsibilities (including, but not limited to, engineering, architecture, intelligence, forensics, risk analysis, and other analyst duties such as varying levels of incident response). He now works as a security researcher for RiskIQ.

Chad & Mike will be presenting on External Threat Management

An attacker's perspective enables them to take advantage of the continually expanding web, mobile, and social presence that operates outside the firewall. You need to take control of mobile, social, & web assets outside your firewall, but how can you discover and index all digital assets appearing on-line that tie back to your organization, bring unknown assets under management, and monitor your whole web attack surface from the outside in. This presentation will cover common external threats and how RiskIQ's technology helps manage these threats; including live examples.
