Chapter Meeting: "Security
& Ethics in eBiz", Larry Canup, CISSP In the old
days, most computer systems were rather isolated. Today, we see systems that need to
access hundreds of other computers on the network, many times with
untrusted "partners" and using a wide variety of technologies. We also have many different ways
of getting to a given system: dialing in, via the internet,
direct-connected links, wireless LANs, VPNs, or via an e-mail
message. We really "do" need
to worry about the system as a whole, sometimes both ours and our
business partner's. For example, if we encrypt all of our information on
the machine are we safe? Of
course not! Someone could
simply penetrate into our system environment and erase our information or
our information that resides on our partner's system. Someone could compromise our
encryptions keys, and so on and so on... To protect the system, we need to
make sure that the weakest links are protected. This
presentation and discussion forum will focus on policy, governance, and
ethics issues and will likely lead us to discussions regarding privacy
regulations, principles, and "enforcement" structures. We will also
touch on familiar
topics such as the importance of secure architectures and secure system
development life cycles as means to deploy our "Security Arsenal" in an
effective manner. | |

The Information Systems
Security Association (ISSA)® is a not-for-profit international
organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides education forums,
publications and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the
knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members. We hope the ISSA

your awareness of security practices and
technologies. This meeting is open to the
general public with no expectations of
membership.
