"IEEE 802.1x Network Security Solutions", Kip Schroeder, Cisco

 

The presenter, Kip Schroeder has been in the IT field for the past 14 years and has spent the last 3 working for Cisco Systems where he has focused exclusively on securing voice and data communication networks. Kip is a regular presenter to industry trade groups including ISSA where he shares broadly from his engagements and perception of industry directions. Kip has lived and worked for the past 10 years in Wichita, KS where he has spent time interacting and consulting with both national and international companies from a multitude of industry segments.

 

Kip Schroeder will be providing a presentation detailing the merits and characteristics of IEEE 802.1X:

  • Client-server-based access control and authentication protocol
  • Restricts unauthorized clients from connecting to a LAN or WLAN through publicly accessible ports
  • Authenticates each client connected to a switch port
  • Assigns ports to a VLAN and applies applicable access control lists before making available any services offered via the switch on the LAN
  • Step by step demonstration of 802.1x via EAP-MD5
