Central Plains Chapter Meeting:

"Tales from the Trenches: Cyber Security War Stories", Eddie Perez, Sr.

Eddie has spent his career learning and gaining experience in the fields of IT Operations, Information Security, and Cybersecurity. Over the past few years, he has been focused on helping companies add to their Detection and Response capabilities. He currently performs technical presales activities for Arctic Wolf Networks, and always loves seeing organizations working to actively mature their security programs.

Eddie will be presenting Cyber Security War Stories

In today's business environment, always being connected is a must to compete. But doing so creates real risk to your business. Malicious attacks, including ransomware, malware and phishing, demonstrate how businesses can be brought to a halt by locking access or compromising business-critical data. In this presentation, our friends from Arctic Wolf, the leaders in threat detection and response, share the war stories and incidents they have seen - and arm you with the knowledge you need to combat them.

The topics of this presentation include:

  • How to speeding up the time to identify and contain cyber attacks
  • How to lower your cost of handling security breaches
  • Learn from real world war stories and incidents
    • Bitcoin mining by IT staff almost compromised data integrity
    • World of Warcraft server trojans compromising medical record system
    • Successfully phished Docusign risking takeover of numerous client systems
    • Misconfigurations leaving terminal servers completely exposed to the Russians

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)® is a not-for-profit international organization of information security professionals and practitioners.  It provides education forums, publications and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members. We hope the ISSA will provide a chance to interface with other IT professionals and further your awareness of security practices and technologies.

This meeting is open to the general public with no expectations of membership.
